Hello,
I have managed to catch the plague or rather I have a cold so work has slowed down a bit. The plague doctor or Nurgle has not knocked on my door yet…..
I have gone a bit Bunny Bonkers on Etsy today and three items have been put up. Two of the items I have put up are based on one of my first tentative steps into the wonderful world of 3D. The item in question is a character called Bedlam the Bunny who was created about four years ago from a project based on asylums. This character is very special to me as it was my first real attempt at creating art in 3D and where I finally started to develop my own style and have the confidence to go with it. I have to point out that I am still not totally confidant, but then who is? I read lots of books about the subject, visited ruined asylums and basically lived and breathed the project. In terms of creativity this was one of my most enjoyable projects.
You may recognise Bedlam from the profile picture.
Bedlam was first made using a Jack in a Box, Sindy dolls head and some other toy bits.
I have a thing about Jack in Boxes, I think it was because I had one as a child and it frighten the life out of me. There is the moment as you turn the handle that at any moment this clown is going to jump put towards you. As any child in the 70s may remember the Fisher Price Jack in Boxes use to make a wailing sound that sounded like souls trapped within the box. Toys can be a bit twisted?
In a later project I gave him wheels, he can be moved by remote control and his eyes light up.
From this project I then continued on the path of 3D and finally found what I really wanted to do. I had a break from asylums for a while but then came back to the subject as I felt it there are so many possibilities. The circuses aesthetics is from my theatre design background, and I see life as a great big insane circus, so it makes sense to me.
So I would like to introduce the Bunny madness that has made its appearance on Etsy. Bedlam The Bunny..
Undead Bunny
Bedlam The Bunny Painting
Bedlam The Bunny Jester Stick.
Oh and if anyone knows what Nurgle is then congratulations you receive 100 Geek points.
Sarah.
