Insanity has crept within my mind recently what with having the plague and a creative block I felt the need to have an adventure. My rather wonderful partner splendidly mentioned an area to explore called The Roaches which presides in the Peak District. Recommended by Radio Four (a Great British treasure). We are rather lucky as we live fairly near to the Peak District and it is quite simply a beautiful place.
So we set off and whilst travelling we listened to Johnny Cash, my favourite song at the moment is “The man comes around”. As we drove into the Peak District a rather dramatic mist descended upon us, taking on a rather haunting feel.
First stop was to find an establishment that would serve us a cup of tea. In finding this establishment we found an rather interesting graveyard so I took the obligatory Goth shot of a graveyard.
Behold! The Roaches!
Our adventure was to climb or rather stumble in my case around the Roaches looking for a Wallaby. Apparently a Wallaby has been seen near Windygates Farm. This is just the kind of British eccentricity and bizarreness that I really love. Rather random as Wallabies are not the usual creatures you find in the countryside. So we looked, and stumbled about.
Just to show the height of the Roaches, in the distance you can see the road. I have to say it was rather windy up there, my partner nearly lost his Top Hat. (really it was a wooley hat).
We did not find a Wallaby, but I felt the cobwebs clear from my mind.
A random gentleman in the distance, can you spot him? It is a bit like where's Wally?
My partner took a video (Oh the marvels of technology) of the view we had. Imagine a Kate Bush song to the video, no really!
Upon our return some wine was poured and a rather nice meal was consumed. I cannot wait to explore more of the Peak District as there is so much inspiration out there. I have an tendency to lock myself within the studio and this can therefore lead to an creative block. Still in the mist of a creative block, but getting there as I am sure there a many more clowns and Plague Doctors that are just dying to be created and to meet you all............
Your's from the Circus,
Sarah
If any one sees a Wallaby wearing a top hat, it's mine...
