It has been awhile since I last blogged and awhile since I have been in the studio. Life has been a bit chaotic but all is calmer now and the fun creative stuff can begin.
Last week we both went to a rather magical place called Whitby for a week. I had not been there since I was a child and wanted to retrace my childhood and show my partner the beautiful part of our country known as Yorkshire. My partners wonderful Mum and Dad agreed to cat sit for us and having four cats this was a very brave and generous offer. Luckily for us they are experts in cat herding so all was well. So I just wanted to share some images as this links to the theme “Bump in the Night”, as this work will be inspired by Whitby.
The Abbey was rather magnificent.

We also met this rather dashing fellow and I must say I really like his hat.
To prove how magical Whitby is we randomly met the Rev Peter Owen Jones who was at a local church to talk about his work. I have a huge amount of respect for Peter Owen Jones, and I can say upon meeting him he is a truly wonderful man. Thank you Peter Owen Jones, you made our holiday very special. Whitby proved again to be rather magical as my lovely boyfriend of thirteen years has decided to make an honest woman out of me by asking me to marry him. He proposed at night outside St Mary’s near the Abbey. The next day we chose a ring which will have Whitby jet as the centre piece, if it was good enough for Queen Victoria then it is good enough for me.

So what an eventful week! As I tentatively began to start work again, I looked around the studio and a headless bride stated back at me…Oh the irony I thought! Here is a picture of her progress so far.
She is nearly finished, just needs to be aged a bit with a good ole cup of tea, and paint.
So thank you Whitby, we shall meet again in a couple weeks.

ReplyDeleteThe view from the abbey is cracking is it not? I gave Andy an impromptu history lesson of Whitby/Praetoria earlier. It was also a place of inspiration for Abraham Stoker and his timeless novel.

ReplyDeleteThe Abbey is beautiful. We did the Dracula tour at night, next time it will be one of the ghost walks. I loved Whitby, may have to visit the moors as well. (Wuthering Heights and all that).
