Mr Pickles the Panicky Clown

My blog was looking rather sad, so I decided to give it a make over. I feel it is looking a bit smarter.

In other news I have gone back to my theatrical roots and have begun to build small sets for my characters. Here is a asylum wall.

At the moment it is rather nice and white, so I shall be adding dirt and decay to give the wall an icky feeling. Nice!

I have also been recreating and developing some older characters. So here is a sneak preview of Veronika the Nurse. She has become a little bit more murderous since we last saw her, and is known to use rather rusty instruments on her patients.

Here is  Aleksandra, the naughty ballerina who made a Faustian pact. The eyes say it all…..

A new character has made his debut on Etsy today. I would like to introduce you to Mr Pickles. He is a rather panicky clown, but when he is feeling calm he is a splendid chap! Here is his story...

PRESENTING  MR PICKLES.....

Poor Mr Pickles cannot seem to relax
As when he leaves the circus he suffers from panic attacks

His heart beats so fast he cannot think straight
His face turns pale and his pupils dilate

Frozen by fear the tunnel vision comes
It sounds like a thousand clowns playing the drums

On top of all this Mr Pickles feels dizzy
He gets so stressed out he ends up in a tizzy

Poor Mr Pickles has forgotten his purpose
He cannot wait to get back to the circus

He feels he has no choice but to fight or flight
So Mr Pickles chooses to move at the speed of light

Now safe and secure he is glad to be back
For within these striped walls he will not suffer from panic attacks.

Written and performed by the Uncanny Brothers, please do not copy or use. Or I shall send the clowns around..... ;-)

Miniature Sebastien the strong man and Esmeralda the circus doll.

It has been a week rather like the weather in Britain, a little bit of this and a little bit of that. I am now a proud owner of this very fine teapot

And these beautiful bloomers from Etsy. I am so happy with these, as they match my pink hair. Cherry the cat likes bloomers as well, although she is more interested in destroying the ribbons.

My fiancé is growing some tomatoes

Aging some metal wire with water for a naughty ballerina who makes a Faustian pact. We all know that this is not a good idea don’t we?

My work space

And I have put some plastic fruit in the sweet dispenser.  So all in all it has been a normal week.

I was also very lucky to have another fantastic commission, which was to make two circus figures that are 1.5 inches high. As the figures were small they demanded a different approach than for example large bouncing clown heads! I decided to use green stuff, if you are a geek you will know what green stuff is. If not then it is a two part epoxy putty, which is great for small and intricate work. Between myself and my buyer who is also an artist we came up Esmeralda and Sebastien who my buyer named. So I would like to present to you Esmeralda and Sebastien’s pictures and their stories.

The Great  Sebastien, strong man of the circus is an eccentric figure. His amazing act consists of bending iron bars around his arms and he can bite through iron chains. He can lift a baby elephant or pull a wagon full of clowns with his teeth! But how you may wonder can he perform such amazing acts? When asked how, Sebastien declares with a twirl of the moustache and a twinkle in his eye that it is the power of tea that fuels his mind and muscles, and refers to words of the playwright Arthur W. Pinero “where there is tea there is hope!” Sebastien concludes that where there is hope there is the ability to do great things! So remember a cup of tea may seem at first to be a humble beverage, but beneath the aroma lies a very powerful elixir indeed.

Esmeralda ran away to join the circus as all she wanted to do was to stand under the bright lights and to hear the roar of the crowd as she performs extraordinary feats. Her act is now one of the biggest attractions. As a painted doll she enthrals the audience with the elegance of the twirl of the ribbon whilst perfectly posed balancing on a ball. A question remains about where Esmeralda actually comes from and how long she has been in the Circus. No one seems to know and when they began to ponder on it they get a strange uneasy feeling. Perhaps sometimes it is better to not know, as knowing is not necessary a good thing.

They now both live under some glass Victorian domes. How wonderful is that? It was a great project to work on, and got me inspired to work on a small scale again. So I am now creating another piece in which the figure is going to be contained in the box.

So what am I gong to do next? I am now going to make a carrot cake!

Sarah.

Food, wine and a Zombie called Humphrey

Hello hello!

The past couple of weeks have zoomed so fast , rather like our cat Cherry when she chases after a ball. Spring arrived in our front garden

I was also unusually away from the studio, not bad for a recovering agoraphobic. My adventure took me up North to wonderful Whitby where we stayed in the beautiful La Rosa. This was our room.

Wherever I lay my bloomers, that’s my home.

The view

Nice cup of tea

Then down south and back again to the Midlands. I also had a birthday in which I ate lots of nice food courtesy of my fiancĂ© incredible cooking.

Birthday breakfast

Dinner!

Wine!

My lovely friend made me a birthday cake to end all birthday cakes!  I named her Bertha the birthday cake.

Sadly Bertha is no longer with us, but she will be remembered. To make up for all of this recent indulgence I shall be doing lots and lots of circuit training. I must admit I am rather in shock with all this activity. This fella is too….

Amidst all of this fine food, fine wine and generally bohemian behaviour I have been working on a commission and have finished a new character. Would you like to meet him?

Humphrey the Zombie is quite often misunderstood . You may be thinking that he is a blood thirsty, brain eating, shuffling vision of horror. In fact Humphrey enjoys the finer things in life such as Ancient history, Dostoevsky and fine wine. Although I feel compelled to add that if Humphrey is near a shopping centre he suddenly descends into a blood thirsty, brain eating, shuffling vision of horror. But in fairness that happens to all of us. As shopping centres will have that effect on you.

You can find him here    Humphrey the Zombie

Next time you go into one of those vast mind numbing, plastic, artificial shopping centre, have a look around and see if you can find any Humphrey’s muttering we must consume…we must consume…..If you do not believe me then watch Dawn of the dead. Although I must admit I do not remember a zombie called Humphrey, I made that up.
